Ointments contain the most oil, making them the best choice for extremely dry, cracked skin. Creams have equal parts oil and water, making them less greasy than ointments. Lotions are lighter and less thick than creams, and their absorption is very fast. Gels tend to be largely water-based, making them less greasy than creams and ointments. The choice of product depends on the severity of the skin condition and the individual's skin type. Ointments are best for dry, cracked skin, while creams and lotions are better for less severe conditions.
